Ida - the 47 million years old fossil
Scientists have uncovered what seems to be the missing link between humans and apes, a major breakthrough in evolution theory, at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The missing link appears to be a 47 million years old primate and it is labeled as being the Holy Grail of our evolution. The fossilized creature belongs to a lemur-like animal and was called Ida. However, the official name is Darwinius masillae because is exactly what scientists needed to confirm the Theory of Evolution by Charles Darwin.
The lemur-like animal is considered to be the missing link because it appears that Ida had opposable thumbs and fingernails. It was a small creature, not bigger than a cat and the posterior legs show that the primate stayed up on two feet. With all of these being discovered, Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, gained another perspective in the battle against religion. Ida is considered to be for science what the Lost Ark is for archeologists or the Holy Grail, according to one of the scientist who had studied the fossil.
The missing link was discovered by a amateur fossil hunter in a crater near Frankfurt in 1983 and later was bought by the University of Oslo where was studied by John Hurum and Jens Franzen. The last one even described the fossil as being the eighth Wonder of the world. The incredible discovery is the most significant of the century as it confirms of the greatest theories out there and reveals the mystery surrounding the human evolution.
