Sri Lanka Tamil Tiger Rebels Have Admitted Defeat After 26 Years

Sri Lanka Civilians Freed By The Government Forces

The war in Sri Lanka has now come to an end after the Tamil Tiger rebels have finally surrendered. Today, the Sri Lankan rebels announced that they silenced their guns, and that they only feel sorry for the lives of the ones they lost in the battle. The war with the government ended after the Sri Lankan army have released all the 50,000 civilians that were held hostages by the Tamil Tigers.

The rebels were defending their ethnic Tamil homeland, and in order to do that, they kept about 50,000 people as a hostage in a very small land. According to Selvarasa Pathmanathan, the rebels’ chief of international relations, the Tamil Tigers will no longer fight and they feel really sorry for their people.

The forces of the Government encircled the rebels and their army, and today they finally took control of the entire island. The President of Sri Lanka, Mahind Rajapaksa, said they had defeated the rebels for a long time, but the Tamil Tigers didn’t want to accept their defeat. Mr. Rajapaksa said that the rebels couldn’t have ever own, but they only realized that now. Also he said that the rebels “caused” many deaths and destruction for nothing. Rajapaksa said that he is sorry for all the people who died in the fighting, and he stated that this was a big waste of human lives.

However, the problem for Sri Lanka are far from over as the UN and the United Kingdom have announced that they will investigate for war crimes, while the USA announced that they have blocked the $1.9bn loan for the country because their misconduct regarding the war.
