The United States Navy has designed, built and already unveiled it’s new toy: a faster, meaner and highly automated war ship. Called the USS Freedom, this project was probably started due to all the fuss with pirates, pirate raids but most of all hostage helds.

The USS Freedom has, among other assets, a great advantage: it can cover more water than any other ship in the Navy (and probably in the world) and can go up against massive enemy fleets. USS Freedom is designed to be a fast, maneuverable and networked surface combatant for missions such as anti-mine warfare, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare and humanitarian relief.
The ship is a semi-planing steel monohull with an aluminum superstructure. It is 377 feet (115 m) in length, displaces 3,000 tonnes and can go faster than 45 knots (52 mph; 83 km/h). The design incorporates a large reconfigurable seaframe to allow rapidly interchangeable mission modules, a flight deck with integrated helicopter launch, recovery and handling system and the capability to launch and recover boats (manned and unmanned) from both the stern and side
This new tool for the war on terror, as some enthusiasts describe it, is planned to keep the seas in the Somalia area pirate-free. Cmdr. Michael Doran said on an exclusive TV show: It’s more than an evolutionary step forward, it’s a revolutionary step forward,”. This was on Tuesday at FOX News’ “America’s Newsroom”. He added: “t’s highly automated and it’s very fast. … For a piracy mission, we can go out there and cover more water with fewer ships.”
Everyone waits for this new Jewel of the Navy to go into action, starting with the must-be-proud Commander with all those ex-hostages who suffered grievly from pirate ships. Modern sea pirates, modern sea police – don’t you agree?
