100 Afghan Civilians Killed By The US Air Strikes

Tens of civilians died on Tuesday as a result of the US air strikes in Afghanistan, strikes that were targeting the insurgents thought to be sheltering in the area. The Officials from the Red Cross said that women and children were also killed. The locals said that the bodies of about 20 women and children were seen in two trucks but the police said that more than 100 civilians died in the western province of Farah.
While the US President Barack Obama is hosting the talks between the Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, back in Farah the events are investigated by a US military team and by the Afghan authorities.
Other sources say that the casualties among the civilians are a result of the Taliban suicide bombers and not of the US air strikes.
It is a known fact that during his visit at the White House Mr Karzai will further ask Washington to try to reduce the civilian casualties, as he often urged the to. In fact, US defence secretary Robert Gates, arrived in the Afghan capital out of the blue, most probably to prepare the scheduled influx of tens of thousands more US troops.
While the high officials of the countries involved in this fight are meeting somwere far away from the danger zone, statistics show a 40% rise in the number of civilian casualtise. The civilian deaths rise to more than 2,100, 550 of them as a result of air strikes by US and Nato-led forces.
Anyway the point is not which party is responsable for the civilian deaths; whether is the air strikes, the Taliban fighters or the suicide bombers who blow themselves up, in any case civilians have been killed and this must absolutely not happen.
