It seems that the Swine flu is generating reactions even in the highest political areas. On “Today”, at NBC , vice president of the USA Joe Biden declared:
” I would tell members of my family, and I have, I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now. It’s not that it’s going to Mexico, it’s you’re in a confined aircraft when one person sneezes it goes all the way through the aircraft. That’s me. I would not be, at this point, if they had another way of transportation suggesting they ride the subway ”
Even if the vice president probably meant only the best, taking into account that he is an know family person and catholic, some entities did not take this comment too well, and even described it as being inappropiate.
Vice president Biden also declared that if needed schools should be closed down. At the moment some 100 schools have already been closed, as the pandemic spans in 15 states and hits Europe also with cases signaled in the UK, Spain and France.
Biden, when asked for advice that we would personally give, said “I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now”. His office was quick to backup this declaration and assure the public that this is no less than what the administration is giving all Americans.
Obviously, one can not do without means of public transportation, and traffic in and out of Mexico will still be intense in the following days.
To summarize the flu in Mexico: over 150 deaths and 2,400 infections, and more are occurring as you read this article. What you should bear in mind is that the flu does not spread by eating pork or pig meat dishes, that is why Obama called the bug the “H1N1 virus,” and other administration officials followed his lead. The main problem is that this virus did not travel a lot, and people do not hold immunity at the time being. Still, panic is something that does no one any good, nor listening to exaggerated rumours on the subject. Competent people are taking care of he issue and cooperation is what everyone is asking for. One thing is certain: the web will be booming with info on the “swine flu” in the following weeks.
