First Swine Flu Related Death In New York City

New York Swine Flu Panic

Yesterday we reported that you shouldn’t think that the swine flu threat is over, and we told you that you should protect yourself and be very careful. We are sorry to announce that the H1N1 virus has caused yet another death in the US, but this time it was in New York City. 55 year old Mitchell Weiner died last night after fighting with the virus for more than a week, and 11 schools are closed today in order to prevent the swine flu from spreading.

This is the first victim in this area after three people from Texas, one from Washington, and one from Arizona died because of the swine flu. The World Health Organization announced more than 8,480 swine flu cases in 40 countries, and 75 deaths around the world. Mitchell Weiner was an assistant principal at the Susan B. Anthony Intermediate School in Queens, New York, and he was a substitute teacher from 1978.

Dr. Richard Wenzel, professor and chairman of the department of internal medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University said that the media is not “talking” that much about the swine flu and this made people go get complacent. We warned that we have to guard ourselves against complacency and continue to protect ourselves. He urged people to go to the hospital if they have any swine flu related symptoms.

All we can say is that we are saddened by Mitchell Weiner’s death.
