Don DiMaggio, former Red Sox SuperStar died this morning

Don DiMaggio has played 11 seasons with Red Sox and won seven All-star statuses. He died this morning, surrounded by his family, at his home, in Massachusetts at the age of 92.

“He was the most wonderful, warm, loving man. He adored his children, and we all adored him,” his wife, 61, said. Dimaggio is described by David Halberstam, author, as “probably the most underrated player of his day.

his bad luck is he played along wih two superstars, who shadowed him and people didn’t recognize him at his true talent and achivements.

Don DiMaggio was elected in 1995 to the Red Sox Hall of Fame, because he played for them from 1940-1942 and 1946-1953. He also served the navy during wartime, so he lost three seasons.

DiMaggio was also called “The Little Professor”, because he wore eyeglasses and was 4 feet and 9 inches tall, being also an intelligent person. His average batting was .298, scored over 100 runs seven times, hit safely in 34 consecutively games, which was a Red Sox record.

Unfortunately, Don DiMaggio, has been unknown during his lifetime, people beginning to know about him now, after his death, becuase the all the media talks about him. It’s a shame when it happens like this and people don’t get credit for their achivements during their lifetime, so they can enjoy it.
