January, a helicopter crashes in Russia in the mountains near the border with Kazakhstan. Nothing weird so far, but the snapshots taken by the environmentalists from the crash site show that a hunting took place there.
So why would you go in remote mountains to hunt? Because there is the house of the Argali goats, famed for their large curly horns. Although it is illegal too shoot them (there are only about 200 Argali left in Russia) it seem somebody tried to evade law.
Even though 6,000 people singed a petition to investigate the shooting of the Argali, the Russian prosecutors only involved in the investigation of the use of the helicopter to hunt.
It seems that the hunting of the endangered goats was a game for the wealthy ones. It is said that the senior officials played up to $2,000 for an hour of play.
Now, the Russian prosecutors are investigating the case of the helicopter crashed in good weather conditions. The accusations of illegal hunting brought the case in the attention of the press and ordinary Russians. Maybe if it wasn’t for this accident the Russian elite would have been longly kept secret this story.
Four people survived the crash, including the Altai region’s deputy governor although he has since resigned.
