Jon Peters wrote a book, entitled Studio Head (quite suggestive, for those who know his history), in which he also states that his former girlfriend Barbara Streisand was sexually abused, repeately by Hollywood legend Ray Stark. Stating that the mogul molested singer and actress Streisand at the first baby-steps of ther career in acting, is no light act, and the book started some controversy even if director Stark is dead. Can’t say for sure if this is one of the main reasons, but it surely did contribute to Harper-Collins Publishers buying his memoir work in April for a reported $US 875,000.
Jon Pagano Peters (born on 2 June 1945 in Van Nuys) is a former hairdresser turned movie producer. He used to be Barbra Streisand’s hairdresser, dated her, and used her to enter the movie industry.
To quote the producer: “Stark [was] an ogre of male chauvinistic casting-couch sexual entitlement [and] had molested both Lesley Ann and Barbra when they were auditioning for him, and neither had ever really gotten over it.”
“I wanted to kill Stark”, said Peters regarding accused harassment of his former wife Lesley Ann Warren. All this, in Peters opinion, occured during the infamous Hollywood casting couch sessions. If he is right, we wonder how many young girls (more or less good-looking than Barbara) fell in the same trap for a meager role in some movie.
Peters said that Barbara was molested while preparing (though probably not fully aware of it) her breakthrough in the 1968 movie Funny Girl and again in 1973 when she was cast in The Way We Were.
The rather ironic part of the story is that Jon Peters, four-times divorced, has been married to (and divorced from) Marie Zampirella, Lesley Ann Warren, Christine Forsyth, and Mindy Peters. Most of all, in November, 2008, Peters was hit with a sexual harassment lawsuit by his Superman: Man of Steel co-producer Brian Quintana. Peters has two other sexual harassment suits pending and has settled countless more.
