Robin Bain
David Bain’s sister, Laniet, confessed to her employer that she had been having sex with her father, Robin and that she is planning to go to the police.
Stephen Cousins, Laniet’s employer, said that the women told him about her escapades with her father during her stay in Papua New Guinea and later when they got back in New Zealand. Mr. Cousins said that Laniet told him that she was planning to go to the police and that she looked kind of worried. As a supporting friend he offered to go with her, to back up her declaration.
Mr. Cousins claimed to have worked with Laniet for a few times and for a short period of time before he sold the business in 1993. Mr. Cousins told the court that he hired Laniet at the request of a group of girls who were trying to help her turn her life around. He said that the girls knew about Laniet and her father.
Earlier today, friends of David Bain gave evidence and claimed that Bain could have been an incredible international opera singer if he hadn’t suffered for the murders of his family. Many friends and lifetime supporters have stayed by his side and have even given evidence in his defense at the retrial of his murder sentence at the High Court in Christchurch today. Most of them knew and respected Bain for the productions and plays he was involved in, in the early 1990s.
Catherine Spencer, head of the Otago University’s German department, helped translate Bain’s music as he wanted an international career and the knowledge of another language would help him accomplish that.
This time, all of his friends described him as being a friendly and outgoing man, capable to relate with all kinds of people. One good turn of events as Bain was previously described as a walking cadaver who could not even carry his responsibilities as a principal at Taieri Beach School.
