Google Unveils Go, A New Fast, Efficient, and Simple Programming Language

Google has unveiled a new programming language called Go, a project which looks very promising judging by the names of the people involved. Rob Pike, Ken Thompson, Ian Taylor, and Robert Griesemer are just a few who worked at Google Go which intends to become one of the most important programming languages ever designed.

Rob Pike, the man who developed the UTF-8 character-encoding scheme, said that software engineers were very frustrated with the problems of current programming technology therefore decided to make another one that our make their lives easier. Google Go resembles C and C++, but it’s much modern and more versatile, while it’s features will allow it to achieve great things.

Pike and Thompson (Unix’s co-creator) say that this is not an experimental project, and that they “want to build stuff for real.” Robert Griesemer is the software engineer who created Chrome’s JavaScript engine and said that thanks to Go’s versatility it might even be integrated in web browsers.

I remember that Intel said months ago that today’s software is too far behind with what hardware the company can develop, and one of Go’s main strengths is to get the best out of multi-core processors so that they can perform more tasks in parallel. Google’s new programming language also features garbage collection, a tool which allows engineers to solve simple, but important memory issues.

From what I can tell, Google Go is much like many Google products like Chrome browser: simple, but fast and efficient. You can read more about Go, Google’s new programming language at its official website at golang.org.
