We’ve witnessed something really interesting yesterday. It wasn’t surprising, but we didn’t expect that just now. Senator from Pennsylvania, Arlen Specter decided to dump the Republican Party in favor of the Democratic Party. He was welcomed into his new party by Barack Obama and VP Joe Biden, both whom didn’t expect this move.
Many Republicans said that Specter betrayed them and called him a hypocrite. In 2001 when Senator James Jeffords switched from the GOP to the Independent, Specter disapproved this move, and said that this is not good for the country. However, he also stated that everyone is free to do whatever he wants, but he was more upset because he lost the presidency at the Veteran Affairs Committee.
Those times are long gong and now Specter said, “I represent the people of PA, not the GOP.” What is indeed weird is that he realized this only now, when he needs support for the 2010 campaign. Now President Obama and VP Biden will probably help him raise funds for the 2010 campaign and offer him a much needed support.
