It seems that even is some actors shine in their work, it is still gossip and petty “news” that storms the media about them. Sean Penn’s controversial marriage kept journalists and paparazzi alike busy. Sean Penn is a two-time Academy Award winner for his roles in Mystic River and Milk, as well as receiving a Golden Globe Award for the former and a Screen Actors Guild Award for the latter. The actor recently know for his role as the proud-to-be-gay politician Harvey Milk in Milk, is filling legal separation after 13 years of marriage.
Sean and Robin, his wife, have two children together: Dylan, 18, and Hopper Jack, 15. This is not the first sign of friction the couple have feed to the press: Penn had a divorce filled in in December 2007, which was officially dismissed. Afterwards (don’t think of some months, after only three days) it was the wife that submitted her own paperwork. As spring is knows as the season of love, in April the couple gave second thoughts and requested cancellation of the divorce papers in April 2008 (or maybe it was a Fool’s Day joke?).
Another interesting episode was at the Academy Awards in February, where Sean Penn received his award for his role in Milk. At the “Thank you” part he did not mention his wife. Later on he stated that this gesture included no irony and that he simply listed only people directly involved in the project. Well, I for one know no wife who would take that too kindly, taking into account that she was in the public at that very speech.
His comments were:
“I wanted to keep things focused on the professional team around this movie. Because with Robin comes my mother and my son and my daughter, and half of them will punish me if I mention them.”
