It appears that Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan felt ill yesterday, May 12 and could not go on with the performance scheduled later that day.

The concert in Athens, Greece, was canceled after Gahan was rushed to the hospital, apparently suffering from “suspected gastroenteritis”. The good news is that if his condition improves, the band could go on with the show the very next day, but until now there has been no word from the officials.

The band is on the road to promote new album Sounds of the Universe and concerts are being held until 2010. The synth-rock icons are also expected to headline a night at this year’s Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago. As for Gahan’s illness, there are no signs that the band will cancel more shows.

Last month, on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Depeche Mode gathered an audience of over 12,000 fans, the biggest crowed Kimmel has ever seen since the show launched in 2003.
